Nikita > Dismantling BBC would be a step toward democratization of British society.

I am very sentimentally attached to the BBC. I have listened to it since I was a little boy (on short wave) and even now I watch it, although not nearly as much as when I used to listen.

Frankly, I don't agree that the BBC is particularly liberal. In fact, the board of governors which determines policy is anything but liberal, being composed largely of British aristocracy.

To me, the BBC was always a station for "straight talk", and that's why I listened to it. It was always educational and informative and, in my understanding, it was never a station which pandered to the whims of the UK "ruling" party, which is, in fact, the reason it has now gotten into trouble over the Kelly affair.

Because the BBC was opposed to an illegal and dishonest war in Iraq does not make it "liberal", in fact, it shows just how independent of the British government the BBC actually is. Don't forget that the present UK government is a Labour (left wing) government and that it, itself, is supposed to be liberal, although it clearly isn't.
