>>> Indeed, honest intelligence had already infected both Powell and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice to the point that they had declared publicly in 2001 that Iraq had been contained and that it posed no threat to its neighbors, much less to the United States.<<<

Hey, how about that!

>>> The answer is embarrassingly simple. Don't you remember? It was to be a cakewalk. The vice president and others assured us that U.S. troops would be welcomed as liberators. They would be met with cut flowers, not roadside bombs. The ''evil dictator'' would be gone. And then who would care if it were eventually discovered that the case for war was manufactured out of whole cloth?

Yes, I think this is what they really believed. And they were not about to listen to cautions that undercut their "faith-based intelligence.''<<<

"Faith-based intelligence," huh!

And did the GOPwingers ever consider what America's new Gold Star Mothers would think, or did the GOPwingers think they had them already hooked in when Bush landed on the Lincoln air craft carrier?

Did the Bush Administration think the mothers of the fallen US soldiers would be appeased by the sight of America's military forces getting greeted with flowers and cheering Iraqis?

Bush still has to yet to attend a funeral of a fallen soldier. Rove or someone should give him a heads-up that these mothers will soon be knocking on the doors of the White House with the look of "why" upon their faces.

>>> Perhaps worst of all, since the president has condoned big-time politicization of the intelligence community, he now has nowhere to turn for an objective assessment of the challenges ahead.<<<

It can be argued that it is in the nation's national security best interests to have Bush and Cheney immediately resign or become impeached, and replace them with leadership able and ready to honestly relate with America's intelligence community.

Bush and Cheney have committed the worst possible act: In a tremendous time of national need, they corrupted America's intelligence-delivering process. Not exactly the kind of action the citizenry would expect from a president and vice-president in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy!
