Having said that, let me add, my heart swelled with pride when I saw our CINC [commander in chief] in that flight suit on the carrier and again when he made the surprise visit to the troops in Iraq for Thanksgiving. As a nurse I know firsthand the effect that these actions had on the morale of our troops and these were both awesome displays of our president's commitment to our men and women in uniform.

NARK: The media brings up the issue, too. Because Vietnam was a tremendous touchstone in our lives. I know it was a pivotal juncture in mine, one I have only begun to explore in the last decade or so. I never spoke about the war for 20 years after I came home. It wasn't until I served again during Desert Storm that I realized I had stuffed a lot of significant issues and memories. The media loves a good circus, and there's nothing like pushing us boomers' hot buttons to pull us into the ring! On a lighter note it occurred to me we might enjoy the vivid recall of those years, the good and the bad, since we can't remember what we did yesterday.

I've been standing on terra firma....not flying high with radical conspiracy theories in the sky.
