Have you tried booting from a floppy boot disk? If not here's where you can download one and then the second link is how to try restoring to a good configuration.

If this gets you back into ME, I'd suggest backing up everything you don't want to lose and starting over anyway. If you've been running ME this long without having to wipe everything and start over you are a lucky person.
