Why do Democrats assume that Nader running will hurt them (or that he cost Gore the election in 2000)? The Republicans could claim that they would have won New Mexico (and would have won Florida even if Gore got the Nader vote) had it not been for Buchanan and the Libertarians.

The people I know who voted for Nader in '00 voted for Perot in '92 and '96. Absent a Nader candidacy, they would probably vote for Bush. They loved John McCain, and preferred him as the Republican nominee.
