I think nader genuinely believes that the two parties are corrupt and that even thought the dems may run a left wing primary campaign and even an occasional left wing pres campaign, this is more reflective of the animosity between the two parties rather than the ideology. I think when dean failed he felt even with all the vitriol we would have another me too race about who could do things better. For example no dem will call for an iraq pullout or an end to free trade but they will pander on the issue and blame bush for everything. I also think nader thinks most deaniac(the committed core anti war folks) will not vote for either major party and he is looking to give them a voice. MIke

if he was serious about becoming president he would have announced his candidacy months ago

hello m...

actually i think it makes total sense to wait until 'the last minute' (if you call 9 months last minute) to run for a third party candidate with nader's name recognition...

my opinion would be the window of opportunity for fund raising would be smaller and more dynamic for such and the potential of losing any momentum early a much greater potential problem than slogging it out for the interminable 2 years devoted to by the dominant parties

he has been down the road before,....i daresay he has more name recognition than any of the dem candidates until very recently.

why would a third party candidate spend precious funds and air time "early"?

indeed if he only gets his "15 minutes" when he announces, i would say he's jumped into the race too soon

(if he throws his support to the "D+ party" at the last minute, then i would say his motives were abundantly clear)

:)
