I have to agree that nothing short of another attack could save Bush. But if he pulls Osamma out of the bag, it will really be close. On the other hand another attack could be seen as evidence that Bush has been largely ineffective in pursuing the U.S.'s real enemies in Al Queda.

My thinking is that unless there is another domestic terrorist attack on US soil before the election, Bush is finished.

Isn't that the sad truth? Without 9/11 Bush would be eight months from being laughed out of office. On 9/10/01 this little man was about to be swallowed up by his chair. A couple of days later, after he had cautiously stuck his head out of his fortified bunker, he was suddenly the savior of the free world.
Giuliani was also resurrected by the attack. Before 9/11, he was the laughingstock of NYC with his comical marital battles. A couple of months later, they are trying to keep him on as mayor and now, who is being talked up as a replacement if Bush dumps Chaney? Rudy G.

What people forget is that virtually any politician would shine in that sort of horrible situation. Even rabid Clinton-haters might admit that Clinton would have been extraordinary in the aftermath of 9-11.
