QUALCOMM this morning raised its guidance by over 15%. Much of this is due to higher shipments of handset chips that support cameras with resolution up to 2 mpixel. The increasing sales of handset chips suitable for camera phones should also have a positive impact on SanDisk. Note, QUALCOMM also introduced new chips that support GSM in four different frequencies (all possible combinations for GSM and WCDMA worldwide customers). These chips will enable upload and download rates of 384 kbps, high enough for instant sending of digital images and other large files that require some form of flash memory in the handset.
