As I said, though, much of our law is based on majority rule. True, the courts have oversight on this, but as long as courts stay away from legislating from the bench, we should be fine.

How can you say otherwise? Congress did not have to vote in favor of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and absent that act, black people would not enjoy many of the rights they possess.

There is no question that these rights were granted to black people by Congress, and that they are not rights granted by the Constitution. They are rights granted by the electorate, and at the time the electorate consisted primarily of white people, and Congress consisted exclusively of white people.
