If you believe Wolfowitz that was the point of the war, to get our troops out of Saudi Arabia but still have bases in the Middle East.

That certainly would explain why the Administration isn't very concerned about whether or not we find WMD, they were never the point, just a bureaucratic decision to sell the war on that basis as Wolfowitz said.

And according to Woodward's book on the first Gulf War, the President's cabinet concluded they could remove Sadaam from Kuwait with or with out force, but only with force could the legitimize a permanent force in Saudi Arabia so they went with war.

Assuming all of this is true, let's hope this strategy works out better than the last one which helped lead to the rise of Al Qaeda and 9-11.

But our troops in Europe and South Korea are not getting injured or killed at the rate that we are seeing in Iraq so the longer we stay there, the higher the toll.
