Canada's crude oil production hit record high in 2003, says Statistics Canada
08:54 PM EST Feb 23
OTTAWA (CP) - Production of crude oil and its equivalent in other hydrocarbons reached a record high in Canada in 2003, because of oil sands projects in Alberta and offshore wells in Newfoundland and Labrador, says Statistics Canada.

"Alberta production, driven by a 44 per cent increase in crude bitumen, grew 6.1 per cent totaling 95.4 million cubic metres. Newfoundland and Labrador production grew 16.4 per cent totaling 19.3 million cubic metres," the agency said.

"With continued strong demand from the United States, Canadian crude oil exports grew 5.5 per cent over 2002. Exports accounted for 62.1 per cent of the total crude oil and equivalent production."

Imports of crude oil also increased in 2003 - by 3.1 per cent from 2002.

"Canada imports significant volumes of crude oil from Norway, the United Kingdom and Algeria. In 2003, these three countries accounted for 64 per cent of the total Canadian imports."

The agency also said that "marketable natural gas production for . . . 2003 declined 3.8 per cent from 2002. Sustained strong demand in Canada by the residential and commercial sectors saw domestic sales rise 2.2 per cent over 2002, while natural gas exports declined 5.6 per cent."

Spots/Kastel, Diaz DZRA.TO -- They have yet to announce any flow rates from that well they found pay on in their Hound Dog prospect. I haven't had a chance to call the company so I don't know when we can expect some news on this.

The biggest thing that has been weighing on the stock price in recent weeks is that tomorrow marks the 4 month anniversary of a 10 M share private placement that was done at $.41, and with the news vaccuum its no great surprise that the stock price is pulling back.
