The "Siberia in England" is a way out prediction but it's from some very good scientists, at the Woods Hole Institute in Massachusetts - as I understand it, the prediction is based on historical evidence that sometimes during warming periods the Gulf Stream reverses.

I halfway suspect that it's part of the Gaia Hypothesis, that the earth has some mystical or mystifying built-in feedback mechanisms, but really don't know. At any rate, it's not a mainstream prediction.

None of us really know. There's no way to test alternative futures except to live one of them, and that means we can't live the other ones, so it's not really "alternative futures."
