tejek, re:it's clear that it can't be a stand alone energy source in many areas of the country but it can be a very effective supplement. A friend here in the sound area has solar panels to provide heated air into his home, but he believes the real savings was due to the extra insulation he installed. Upping the external walls from 6 to 8 inches and just going way over the required insulation code would have a much bigger payoff. Better windows, etc. we should attack this problem from both ends, generation and consumption - or just plain loss here in the the NorthWet.
