Red,
He is less a peacenik than a tortured vietnam vet. Once burned twice shy so he errs on the side of peace and thats bad given todays enemy.
Truth be told we probably could have negotiated with Ho Chi Minh at any point during the confict(or before) there. Perhaps there could have been a peaceful solution. Ho's antipathy to us pre-our involvement is questionable. Vietnamaese, as they do now, need western friends to offset the chinese on their border so who knows. Results may have been the same but 50,000 + americans would not have been killed.
OTOH, one cannot negotiate with islamist fanatics, end of story. Some on the democrat left apparently think you can althought they will never admit it. Some think it was bush policy that caused the 9/11 attack. They will never say it.
If kerry steps away from this bs and adopts biden/bayh/lieberman ideas he would ultimately have a better chance of beating bush imo. If the dovish kerry that exists now actually wins, bin laden will be testing him real soon. This is a very real danger imo. Mike
