<The Chinese have been raising children for quite some time and basically what they do is spoil the kids rotten until the age of reason. Modern psychologists have confirmed pretty much that the Chinese had the right idea. All Children reach the level of abstract thinking at about the same time - at 3 1/2 years old. > Mary, maybe that explains why China has been such a hovel of a place for a century [and more]. People around the world have been raising children for exactly the same time, down to the decade [since we are all offspring of Lucy]. So I don't see that Chinese have any special claim to fame on child raising, especially given the results. I think the Chinese method and the modern psychologists are both wrong [if that's what they think]. Also, while most children will cluster around an 'age of reason', there will be a large spread on either side, with some much younger being reasonable and some much older showing no signs of reason.
