I've got a wonderful old book I've hung onto for thirty years, called "The TV Typewriter Cookbook". It's a manual for building a primitive PC with an old TV, an obsolete teletype machine, and some of the recently introduced 1mhz microprocessors and other components. It's a marvelous example of how technology is synergistically combined to do new, amazing things. This wasn't done in corporations, but by individual engineers and hobbyists, just having fun. There's going to be a lot more of those in China and India going forward than they're here. Maybe the engineers here will have more free time though - a left handed bright side.

So What !! - There are NO engineering jobs in the USA. In fact, there are hundreds of thousands of unemployeed engineers here in America sitting around watching TV, repositioning themselves as real estate agents, hustling house painting jobs, retraining to be an entry level nurse or teacher, etc. Furthermore, engineering in America is a 7 YEAR occupation. After you graduate, you have about 7 years of career life as a professional engineer, before the forces of supply and demand dictate that you are "too expensive" and they can hire college grads a lot cheaper.
