Granted, I'd rather spend the money on that than on, say, farm subsidies, but thus far it doesn't really seem like a self-sustaining alternative from a purely economic perspective.

What the hell is wrong with farm subsidies? The GOP on this thread repeat that statement like its a mantra. I can not believe you would bite the hand that feeds you.

I once lived in a midwestern state and the farmer's lot is not an easy one. Even with subsidies, they can barely survive. As a consequence, they are being bought up by corporations where often, the standards for farming are less.

The truth is that the farm subsidies are a very small part of our overall budget and yet, farmers are repeatedly taken to task over this issue.

John, is this part of the conservative philosophy? If so, I just don't get it. You can spend billions on war and defense but you squeeze every nickel you can out of your farmers?!!
