OT WOOF, WOOF: "an animal healthcare services company and operates networks of veterinary diagnostic laboratories and free-standing, animal hospitals" finance.yahoo.com

It has quadrupled since coming public just over two years ago, so it is no dog. Is it possible we are barking under the wrong tree in focusing excessively on tech land? <g>

As I think about it, my last two "pet stocks" - Petsmart and Ralston Purina - both did wonderfully. If I were a theme player, which I am, I would say that I think I am sniffing a trend here. Pets are much cheaper than kids and we tend to indulge them, especially compared to most other categories of discretionary spending. I already own DGX, the largest clinical lab testing company. I am watching WOOF, but I will not bite just yet because it looks quite pricey compared to DGX (substantially higher P/E, P/S, P/B, debt with similar growth and margins). Perhaps the strength is the market sniffing out a potential category killer or TOP DOG. [I remember when I shorted Home Depot around 1980 because it seemed to have astronomic multiples. Was that ever a mistake.]

Anyone care to follow up with their "back of the envelope" analysis?

G, anyone: what's the real poop on WOOF?

Sam
