laura, I've already met most of my neighbors (I am pretty outgoing), and the rest I know by sight (and a wave / smile in passing).

For the people I know well, I just ask: What do you think of Bush? For the others, I just start chatting and the subject always seems to come up! Most people like to talk about the weather and politics, and it seems EVERYONE is upset about something with the Bush administration.

One woman I talked with started asking if I knew a good place to see the wildflowers in the desert. (Yes, I do). That led to a discussion on the environment, and that led to the Bush administration, on to Big Oil, and the blunder in Iraq, etc.

Unlike the Bushies, I do not commit the fallacy of composition. This is my local experience only. A few months ago, the Bushies were all talking among themselves and they imagined that Bush would win in a landslide. I never believed that was true. I am an optimist, and I thought Americans would wake up!

But I still think we need to fight for every vote from now until November 2nd. If Kerry is leading by 20% in the polls, I will still be trying for 21%. We need to repudiate Bush, and save America!

Best to all.
