However, I think your parallel to WWII and Hitler may be more accuratly depicted in the comparison of Japans attack on Pearl harbor to the 911 attacks. Our heritage contains wonderful language of that which we portend to believe......<"give me your poor is what four fathers of this great democracy had envisioned"> However I think history shows us to be "cocooning" (your word) more often than not until we are directly attacked or threatened.
