If the US is so anxious about grabbing more oil, all it has to do is tap West Africa: billions of first-grade oil lie safely off the shores of Angola, Congo-Brazza, Guinea, Nigeria>>> You are either very naive or under informed. This is the results of the think tank commissioned by Cheney in early 2001. The dozen or so paragraphs starting at this point in the document lays out the pre 9/11 program to invade Iraq for their oil. You also have the recent disclosures by O'Neill to verify the fact that attacking Iraq was part of the Bush program from day one. The only problem is Bush wouldn't have stood a snowball's chance in hell of getting Congressional approval to invade Iraq without 9/11 as a backdrop. Virtually every public statement made by the Bush Cartel in the build up to invade Iraq tried to tie in the concept Iraq was a terrorist state, posed a threat to the US, and was somehow connected to 9/11.rice.edu If you don't believe the world's second largest proven oil reserves, sitting close to the surface, and concentrated in an area the size of California, isn't a prize beyond the wildest dreams of avarice to life long oil men, there probably isn't any point in continuing this conversation. No doubt bigotry plays a part in the justification, but bigotry is the favorite rationalization of those who need an excuse for their criminal acts. <<<Now, you claim that Russia had nothing to gain out of it? Actually the payoff for Russia is substantial: the Afghan squall line has been stabilized and the Muslim creep (in Central Asia) kept in check, an endeavor that couldn't be achieved by Russia anymore>>> Laying aside for the moment that you haven't mentioned a motive for French involvement in 9/11, you're also ignoring the fact that Bush had plans on the table to invade Afghanistan prior to 9/11. Your logic escapes me. We only have around 12,000 troops in Afghanistan. Do you seriously expect anyone to believe Russia can't field a force that size if they wanted to? Or that Russia doesn't have enough planes and bombs to subdue a hand full of peasants with AK47s? You can't be serious. In the mean time, you'd still have to come up with a theory on how Russia and France were able to slip terrorists through customs, derail investigations into their activities, slide them through airport security, cause a stand down in air response to the attacks, and then execute the most massive cover up in US history. 9/11 was flat out impossible except as an inside job.
