That's a very broad question. I used to work in public affairs in several countries; I have seen the range from top-flight western newspapers to the lamest Third World rags.

I find European TV news much more balanced and levelheaded than the commercial-crazed US broadcast media nowadays. Since most Americans get their news from a broadcast source, I agree with Dobbs 100% on the trends there. If I could have only one news source on the planet, it would be the BBC, no question.

The US newspapers I read online are still pretty good - the NY Times, Wash. Post, and WSJ mainly. Print outlets have more space to keep the meaty news and analysis alongside all the reader-pleasing fluff that pays the bills and keeps the advertisers happy.

To sum up, I could do without US broadcast media apart from CNN, and even that would not be my #1 choice for news and information.
