Ted Re...It's hell trying to be positive with solutions on this thread ("For God's sake you have to CLEAN the solar panels!!!"). As long as you stay negative it's much harder for these folks to take their cheap shots.
John, its rather remarkable how some people see alternative fuels and conservation as some ugly conspiracy that must be resisted at all costs.

Get over yourselves for heaven sake. Just when has pointing out that electric solar panels, need routine maintenance, become a cheap shot. Put the damn panels on the ground, or within reach, for easy maintenance, thats all. Just how is that anti solar? You guys are trying to mislead the people, by letting them think solar panels are so maintenance free, that they can be put on roofs, without any problems. Electric solar panels require some maintenance.

Misleading? No one is trying to mislead anyone. You all are just so unreasonable. There is no flexibility what's so ever.

Solar panels have to be put on the ground to be cleaned. Why? Gutters on on the roof need to be cleaned twice year. I suspect that's how often solar panels would need cleaning. What's the big deal?!
