Terror is best combated through a combination of strength, cooperation, improving conditions for the poor which is the reservoir tapped by the terrorists, working with nations such as Palestine and Israel for peace and making changes in the way we do business with terrorist supporting countries such as Saudi Arabia That all SOUNDS good but hasnt seemed to work well; 1. Strength, if you dont USE IT you LOSE it. Maybe not in reality but in perception. Remember when America was called the PAPER TIGER. Havent heard that term in some time now have we. 2. Cooperation, we have cooperated in the past with the ruling powers and been criticized greatly for supporting nasty dictatorships. So whaddya supposed to do? Saddam was just an AWFUL person not for us FOR HIS PEOPLE. 3. Improving conditions for the poor--JUST DOESNT WORK in dictatorships. The ruling party sucks all the moneys off for themselves and leaves the people high and dry. Look at Arafats wife living HIGH on the hog in Paris, look at the average palistinian. What improves conditions for the poor is giving them a representative government. 4. Working with Palistinians etal. Clinton proved that wont work. He practically KISSED ARAFATS ASS IN PUBLIC (and would have if Arafat would have only bared it) in a full court press attempt to get peace over there and win the Nobel Peace Prize. Didnt work. Now, Arafat MAY believe Bush will BLOW his ass off, I bet that would work. haha. However, even there the REAL CULPRIT IMHO is IRAN, I think it is they who are fomenting the middle east unrest, IF Iraq becomes a strong representative government IRAN may have NO CHOICE but to follow, and if they do that will END their support for terrorism IMHO. 5. Saudi Arabia--THATS a tough nut to crack. The problem is they got us OVER THE BARREL. If the Royal family falls in the near future the alternative is likely to be FAR WORSE then what they have today. Plus, like it or not the Sauds supply the Western World most of the oil we need to keep our economies running. Shut it off and EVERYONE will be looking for a job around here. jdn
