9/11 Families Action Alert: Tell Congress to Extend 9/11 Commission Deadline
Despite a promise from Bush for a two-month extension to the 9/11 Commission's deadline, his "allies in Congress, including Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, continue to oppose any extension. The Commission will have to cancel important hearings and interviews and will not have time to analyze critical documents. The result will be an incomplete report that is likely to leave answerable questions unanswered and fail to provide a full list of recommendations for preventing future attacks. We need your help to convince Congress to pass legislation giving the Commission an extension. You can do two things: 1) Send a fax to Scott Palmer, Rep. Hastert's Chief of Staff, at fax number 202-225-0697, and tell him you want Rep. Hastert to support an extension of the Commission's deadline (or phone 202-225-2976). 2) Contact your own representative and senators urging them to support the bills that would grant the Commission an extension: H.R. 3771 in the House and S. 2040 in the Senate."

I wonder which side of the issue he will take. Both?

Bush is opposed to cutting my benefits.

Bush opposes some benefit cuts

President says Social Security cuts should be off limits to retirees and people near that age.
February 25, 2004: 12:09 PM EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush said Wednesday that cuts to Social Security benefits should be off-limits to people who are retired or near retirement.

"My position on Social Security benefits is this: Those benefits should not be changed for people at or near retirement," the president said.

Bush's comments came in response to a question from a reporter after Greenspan said in testimony to a congressional committee that Congress should consider pushing up the retirement age and offering less generous increases in Social Security benefits.

Greenspan also later said he opposed changing benefits for retirees or those near retirement. (For more on Greenspan's comments, click here).

Kenneth and AS disagree and believe they know better than Greenspan...Lolol

But while Greenspan urged urgency, Congress is unlikely to take up the controversial issue of cutting Social Security benefits in an election year.

Greenspan did not rule out using tax increases to deal with the looming crisis in Social Security, but he said that tax hikes should only be considered after every effort had been made to trim benefits.

While that would erect a high hurdle to President Bush’s call for making his 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent, estimated to cost at least $1 trillion over a decade, Greenspan again repeated his belief that spending cuts rather than tax increases were the best way to deal with the exploding deficit.

No one working needs to receive ss benefiis today. They are ripping off our society.

Cutting Social Security, rather than raising taxes on the wealthy, to reduce the deficit. Now, that is an issue made to order for John F. Kerry.
