<<Though, now I think about it, I wonder how many volunteered knowing that getting drafted was inevitable.>>

I volunteered on Christmas Eve 1969. I had a high draft # in the lottery and had had a college deferment. I remember walking in the snow, doing an errand, and remembering how many times I had been told I wasn't drafted because I was white and rich. Rich, right, my father had a 4 person clothing store and rarely made $15k a year. I saw the army recruiter's office and walked in.

I had orders to Vietnam but the whole company got new orders to Germany. Got two sets of shots for overseas. Came home and went to college. Same shit from the black folks so I quit and sold suits.
