So, what is the combined tax rate for a successful company that pays dividends and the individual for that portion?

Who cares, I'm tired of this "double taxed" argument. There is one reason Dubya went after this dividend tax cut, he wanted his old crony smokestack industry friends to benefit from the stock market frenzy like the kids in the tech industry were doing in the 90s. TONS of things are double taxed in the USA. I pay income taxes and then get taxed again when I spend that income in the form of sales taxes. When money *changes hands* in this country it is eligible to be taxed. That is what is happening when a dividend is paid.

All things equal if we had a solid budget with surpluses and a fair tax system I would be all for elimination of dividend taxes. But when we are broke as a nation and workers are forced to pay almost 15K per year just for the priviledge of employment, dividend taxes are the last thing that needs to be cut in order to *spur growth and jobs*.

I think the voters get this and the best part about Dubyas stupid scheme to buoy his buddies into speculative stock fame is that it didn't work. The only people who want dividends are people looking for diversification or the elderly who want "safe" investments. Hot money never wants dividend stocks.
