The RECORDED unemployment is 5.6%. My wife doesn't have a job and is only one of many who don't show in that number because her unemployment benefits ran out. I also know people who were totally refused unemployment benefits when they lost their jobs and so do not show up in the unemployment numbers. Many more than 5.6% of the people I know have lost jobs in the past year or so.
