OT Gottfried re: WOOF

I accidentally deleted your PM on WOOF, which I wanted everyone on this tech-obsessed thread to read to see that there are companies that sell goods and services that we can easily understand that occasionally quadruple in two years as WOOF has.

Your message was pointing me to today's press release that WOOF has just donated $0.4 million to UC Davis for a new veterinary facility. VCA Antech, Inc., Helps Bring New ``Instructional Heart'' to UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine biz.yahoo.com

It's a great move on WOOF's part. I just hope they don't expect to get their name on the building for that amount of chump change. <g>

Seriously though, if for a tax deductable $400k they can get their name out to each student in the best vet school in the country (sorry, Cornell), it is money very well spent. It seems kind of insignificant, but it is exactly the kind of little move that to me is an indication of smart management -- even smarter than Mondavi donating oodles of money to build a center for the performing arts on the campus. I mean, these are the kids who are going to be starting the vet practices that WOOF wants to acquire. They are the best and the brightest. It's tougher to get into Davis vet school than Harvard Business or Law School.
Hat's off to WOOF. I have officially upgraded WOOF to my watch list.
