Not saying this is the case with your wife, but a lot of people won't take a job unless it is at least as good as their old job. Not possible sometimes without moving. I feel for your wife, and anybody who loses a job. But persistent people with usable skills can find something. The better off you are, the choosier you can be. Not trying to be harsh, just stating some realities.
