Republicans say: God hates queers. They live an evil life-style, and God has punished them with AIDS for their sins. No marriage, no civil union, no compromise. A simple, clear message, expressed with fervent conviction. Democrats say: God neither hates nor loves gays (if there is a God). We're going to finesse this issue, sit on the fence, split some hairs: yes to civil unions, no to marriage. We're going to (sort-of) support gays, but try not to irritate the guys with Confederate flags on their pick-ups. We want everyone to be reasonable; let's all join hands and sing Kumbaya. A complicated, unclear message, expressed with no conviction. My position is: 1. God loves everyone 2. "everyone" includes gays 3. gays who have 50 different sex partners per year are a public health hazard 4. the most repressive and violent measures, by any government, anytime, have never eradicated homosexuality 5 therefore, homosexuality cannot be eradicated by passing laws against it (and certainly not by just banning marriage) 6. the solution is for gays (and heteros too) to be encouraged to form longterm mutually faithful monogamous sexual relationships. That way, gays (and heteros too) won't be a public health hazard. 7. therefore, I support government-funded propaganda campaigns to encourage marriage, for heterosexuals. And gays. Lesbians, too (although their promiscuity isn't a public health hazard). 8. I just talked to God on my cell-phone, and She says that Pat Robertson is indeed hearing voices, but it's the voice of Kali The Earth-Destroyer (usually depicted wearing a necklace of human skulls, and dancing on the corpses of Her victims). God said, "You shall know the tree by its fruit". Wonder what She means by that?
