I also heard somebody on NPR say that in reviewing Gibson's body of work, he (Gibson) seems to have a strange sado masochistic streak running through a lot of his pictures. He cited one movie where Gibson insisted on a re-write of one scene where he amplified his own beating, unnecessarily, apparently to fit his weird martyr complex.

The guy appears to be strange.
