The Bubbling Up of Cultural Wars is yet Another Sign

to me of what's coming, for the US Economy. I prefer to view the issues of broadcast (in)decency, gay marriage, religious morality, patriotism and other forms of nationalism--in a much, much broader context, as *tells* or indicators that the culture is anxious about its material prospects, and is beginning to cast about for other "answers" and in many cases, scapegoats.

If very bad things occur economically for the US in the next 2-3 years, "capitalism" will come in for a good thrashing--and there will be all sorts of loopy "solutions" offered, from antiquated economic models to self-flagellating moral imperatives.

I don't look forward to it.
