Kerry has agreed to ban gay marriage in Massachusetts, making it impossible for the Bushies to attack him on that wedge issue. The guns issue is a wash for Kerry as he wants common sense gun control but is also a life-long hunter, marksman, war hero and gun owner. At some point in the campaign he will show his marksmanship in a photo op for reporters. Unlike Dukakis, he looks great behind the barrels of a machinegun or a tank. He is very experienced firing a .60 machinegun, M-16, whatever.

H-Man, at such times when the country is going through a jobs crisis, when we have not made much headway in our war against terrorism and the returns we have achieved in the level of security is disproportionate to what we have had to sacrifice by way of lives lost (including the 3000 in WTC) and the money spent (including the 87 billion), we Americans would certainly consider the gun issue as something we don't care much about.

The flight of jobs overseas, the tax breaks for companies who take jobs overseas and now with Greenspan saying that we need to need at Social Security to address future deficits. These are the bread and butter issues that will be the platform for this elections. Any attempt to take our minds away from these issues will not fly. IMHO
