You had better read that article carefully, and its implications for Kerry. The author says this about Kerry. Now comes John Kerry as the Democrats' front-runner. When Kerry was young and serious, he was young and serious. He put away childish things early on. He served in combat in Vietnam And the author says this about GW. That was George W. Bush's brilliant dodge throughout the 2000 campaign whenever questions came up as to how he behaved during his 20s and early 30s. By poking fun at himself, Bush was winking at the press corps, especially the baby boomers among them. Bush's unspoken subtext: You guys did a lot of irresponsible things then, too, so you're not in an ideal position to ask me a lot of questions, are you? Personally, I think you dems are making a big mistake, not taking the same position GW did. Don't say Kerry was serious, because you truly don't want the public to conclude that Kerry believed that opening up in free fire zones was a heroic thing to do, even if he got medals for it; and later condemned it. What you should be saying, is the same thing Gw said; I was young and foolish also, and I did some things I shouldn't have, however that is war. I apologize to all the veterans who I may have besmurched in my zeal to end the war, but I truly believed then, as I do now, that the ends justified the means. When we are young, we all want to show the mettle we are made of; to do things which prove to the world the steele we have in our character; however, I have found out, heroism often times means knowing when not to pull the trigger also. And we in the gov. need to make sure the wars you fight in are honorable and just, so that you aren't haunted for the rest of your life, like I was. Do you get my drift. Kerry made his name in the protests after the war, not from the medals he earned. By accentuating the rightousness of his medals, over his protests, you are talking around, rather than up, the strongest part of Kerry's history. And by talking up his medals, rather than the protests, you are telling the young men of this country, it is okay to go off to war, and be a hero, all the same time, you, (the Dems) are telling them war is a bad thing, not heroic. Its a paradox, you won't be able to explain. It's an insult to the men who fought over there and came home scarred from the experience. Absolutely. Just why did Kerry say the things he did, then? You want us to pick and chose the good parts about Kerry's past, and ignore the bad. However, Kerry is all about the whole package, not just the parts you wish to emphasize. And if you can't answer the question I pose, then perhaps, you shouldn't be; (as they say in court.); putting yourself on the stand.
