I'm not sure why people ar so hung up on "shrinking government". Many government expenditures boost economic growth far beyond what is collected in taxes. The interstate highway system is a prime example. The billions collected in fuel taxes and spent on highways generated thousands of construction and maintenance jobs, prompted millions of Americans to buy cars so they could travel, generated a new tourist industry and produced countless other "ripple effects".

A multi-billion dollar dollar program to put broadband in every home would have eliminated the telcom depression in short order.

A similar government program to end the automobile's reliance on carbon fuels would cost billions but generate more economic growth than any single private venture.

Cutting government spending and reducing taxes is not always the best choice. Granted, we must be ever watchful for waste, mismanagement and pork barrel spending, but big government expenditures aren't always evil.

>>>Unlike Republicans in the past, Bush cut taxes NOT to shrink the government...<<<
