it's a trading thread

I really wish people would stop saying that. Trading is so 90ish.

I took part in the discussion surrounding the inception of this thread. Certainly G would agree that the biggest motivation was to find a place to keep AD's profusion of daytrades from "polluting" the more serious analytical discussion on the AMAT thread. But I think the more important function of this thread is simply transparency, which is a delicate but extremely important ingredient of a successful bulletin board. Let's just say, it helps to reinforce accountability, a paper trail, and reputation, which is so critical in an online environment. It encourages learning. I, for one, would certainly like to know when a DTE veteran like yourself chooses to raise her stake. In the economics trade, it's called revealed preference. The basic premise is that following the money inflows and outflows of smart people in realtime can be quite instructive. Who knows, even said smart person, might gain from the experience and even they may actually learn just how smart they are. I mean, would we even know what happened to AD without this thread, if it's important to learn how someone can lose a year's trading profits in a few short days. With transparency, there is no opportunity for delusion -- self-delusion or otherwise.

If I read a post like: DTE Bot 100 @ 40. Now holding 1000 shares. Over 8 years. Average cost basis: 15 I would certainly take notice and may ask you about the company. I might even follow you, and emulation is always the best form of flattery.
