I am not against gay marriages because I don't see any reason to deny two consenting adults the right to spend their lives together with the same rights you and I may have

I can give you what I consider a very good reason. Let's say there is a gay (or straight) person is working for a small company (100 workers or so) which has health benefits for their employees. Let's say that person marries someone who has aids simply so that person can get free medical benefits. One or 2 people doing this at a small company could force the company to either scale back their benefits, discontinue them or at the very least make all other employees pay much more into the plan to keep it solvent.

As far as rights go gays have the same rights as straight people do. A straight person isn't (in most places) allowed to marry a person of the same sex either.
