Do you think that the Gulf States were anticipating what Iran would be like 10-20 years down the road?

I'm having a hard time following your thinking. I wasn't even vaguely heading in that direction.

In 1980, Iran was in no shape to fight Kuwait let along Iraq.

In 1980 Iran despite all its inner turmoil could have stomped Kuwait like a bug if it wanted to and it knew no one would intervene.

Also I wasn't talking about 1980 but rather a few years later when Iran was starting to get the upper hand against Iraq. Yes they where sending 14 and 15 year olds to fight Iraq but they did pretty much push Iraq out of Iran and they where starting to encroach on Iraqi territory. At that point Iraq's resistance stiffened, mostly because they where defending their homeland instead of invading, but also because of the assistance they got from the Gulf States and the US.

So about what were the Gulf States so worried.....if it wasn't religion?

Iran's military. Also I never said religion wasn't a factor, merely that 1 - It was not a reason for the war because it wasn't a reason, or at least not a major one for Saddam and he started the war, and 2 - It wasn't the only reason for the gulf states to support Iraq. It was one of the reasons they supported Iraq I never denied that.
