GE offers a checking account that is NOT insured, but is GE, that yields 2.25%.

Check your local banks. Several are now offering 2% rates in my area. Most offer free, mouse-click, electronic funds transfer to your brokerage account. Only problem is that for each account, only $100,000 can be transferred each week. Multiple accounts solves that problem.
