the warriors sent to Rorke's Drift were mostly middle-aged

Somehow I suspect it's an American historian who has come up with that historical fact.-lol-

The equivalent of a "sargent major" in the Zulu army had clubs to dash in the brains of any warriors that were not up to standard fitness wise, no matter what age they were. So the guys at the back of the pack running about the African plains always got weeded out.

Besides, what does age matter when you are being stuck with one on these things.

and where the opposing side has these, and are well trained to use them with engineering skills.

Not to say the story is untrue, and young fit guys can make a big difference, but on the evidence presented, I do not see how the older warriors were a factor in the Zulu defeat at Roaks drift. If they shot better, yes they could of whacked Rork's Drift too. (They had captured HM rifles as well)

Being an "older guy" I am interested in these things of course -ggg-
