Not that I care -- if the logically incorrect form was first <vbg> which apparently it wasn't ...

But I like phrases that make sense ...

and "I couldn't care less" means you don't care and couldn't care less, because if you could (care less) then you would and and wouldn't be able to care less ...

The moral of the story is: Don't be careless with idioms -- no one will get confused, but you are apt to get a lecture you don't care for ...
