Ray,

I thought it looked interesting also, but I tend to have mixed feelings on the value of those sort of rallies. At twenty bucks a head, it starts looking like a commercial venture rather than a sincere effort to share information critical to every member of our society. I think there's a point where the activist phase ends and some of those involved start thinking of themselves as rock stars with a cult following willing to pay money to see their act.

No doubt it takes money to put on that sort of event, and there's probably some benefit to sharing information, but it seems to me $20 a day is enough to eliminate virtually every member of the population except those already fairly well informed. Also, holding the follow up event in Toronto strikes me as passing strange. For better or worse, it's an issue US citizens have to deal with.

Holding an event in a grange hall in Minnesota, and passing the hat while everyone sits down to a brown bag lunch, strikes me as being more in touch with the reality of the situation than treating it like a side show act in some tourist town. I think the acid test would be if they have a realistic approach to distributing information to a wider cross section of America, or if it's just being used as a vehicle to fleece some groupies.
