CC, It's just part of the ethically challenged nature of corporate America. Grasso got the money because he had a bunch of rubber stamp directors. However, nothing he did was in the least bit illegal. That's the way most CEOs end up with salaries and perks that are obscene. The causes are not greedy CEOs. They're all greedy. The problems are: 1. Wimpy, ignorant shareholders. 2. Wimpy, ignorant or criminal directors. 3. Wimpy regulators. If the Attorney General of New York was not trying for political advantage, we would never have heard of any of the rip-off scandals at brokerage firms or mutual fund companies. The SEC is a toothless pussy cat when it needs to be a ravenous tiger. Don't get me wrong. They will pound on some small fund co. or an individual broker who picks his nose. But when the big firms say "drop dead," they ask exactly where the drop should be done.
