We've played our military hand in public and admitted that we needed political help to fix Iraq's security problems. The biggest, richest military the world has ever seen and a rabble of guys with machine guns and soda can IEDs make us run for UN political cover.

Our image as a superpower now consists of:

- so so military in guerilla situations...again
- nuclear war

I see nothing in between these two things. We have learned a thing or two from Vietnam but, if we were to fight a whole country in a guerilla war (vs just 5000 insurgents), it looks like we're no better off than before.

We've also shown our cards to the world on:

- limits to our supplies: running out of small arms ammo, running out of body armour, ineffective boots, gloves, etc. that our guys are buying out of their own pockets.
- limits to our intelligence: CIA spy stuff can be knocked about by political yammering
- limits to the rest of the world following our lead
- limits to our economy being able to fund a war in a single country of 25 million (Afghanistan budget much smaller)
- the third world corruption in our administration
