Americans were willing to accept NAFTA when it looked like it resulted in the servitude of workers in other countries, bringing lower prices to stores like Wal-Mart.

Thats not why people voted for Nafta. The idea behind Nafta was to raise the standard of living in Mexico, which in turn would be good for Americans, true- but these constant portrayals of free trade as an american supieriority vehicle that didn't work out are false. Free trade was never intended to provide "cheap labor" forever to US firms.
