Kerry's war heroism is important this year because Bush proclaimed himself the "war president" got into uniform and pranced around on an aircraft carrier. That was going to be the centerpiece of his campaign, that imagery. Kerry's candidacy and experience makes GW's antics look phony and an insult to real combat heros.

No one attacks his medals.

But having medals gives him NO free ride for ALL that he has done since.
