Do you think you can find one instance of the Supreme Court pushing religion (Christian or?) out of the everyday life of citizens prior to the late 1900's? Most of these artifacts of Christianity or Judaeo-Christian legacy are not new. Kicking out ALL prayer was extreme and actually showed that government had no business regulating education. It was too large a portion of the community life to sterilize with prohibitions. What is freedom if you have to ask permission.

I still believe the admonition was strictly referring to sects (Lutherans, Episcopalians, Catholics, etc.) of Christianity and there is evidence of this in the writings of the founders. The general influence of Christianity was and is the cornerstone of this country, ask DeTocqueville. It still is, you just may not like the message of those whose voice is out of proportion to their actual influence (Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell are the Orthodox Jews of Christianity). Some of the pioneers of Silicon Valley were from Community Church areas in the midwest and brought that church influence into the workplace (Philip Noyce, for example), These churches were self-contained and many shared the work normally done by priests or ministers, in other words there was no universal dogma but concerned pragmatic use moral teaching.

500 kids in my nephews elementary school, the same school I too attended many years ago, cannot celebrate Christmas so as not to offend one child who wears a turban and carries a dagger.

In an effort to become accommodating to every newcomer, have we as founders of this country become a bunch of pansies? In our strive for respecting other cultures are we not foresaking our own? In an effort to build a great and just society where everyone is equal we have implemented laws. These same laws are now being turned against us and are destroying our culture, our heritage, our country.

We are now the minority and have no one else to blame but ourselves for not having the kajunas to say, "Enough is enough."

"Most prominent republicans have said this is a states issue. "

What do you mean by "States issue"? If two men marry in California and move to Wisconsin where gay marriages aren't legal would they be considered married under the law? Would they be entitled to spousal benefits under Wisconsin law? Do you realize the whole can of worms you'll be opening up when calling it a State issue? Or possibly is that your intent?
