Great idea for a thread....

However this changed in Summer 2003. Since Summer 2003 the general population is buying FOMA phones, many people probably don't know anything about 2G or 3G or other technical details.

I think Docomo is going to have a huge winner with the x900i handsets. The specs are unbelievable AND they have come up with some creative new designs. If they add in a flat-rate fee for data, they could trump the big edge that KDDI has with with 1xEV-DO.

I see the two of them slugging it out while Vodafone languishes for at least the next 6 months. They need to accelerate their development of 3G handsets for Japan. The specs on the V801SH would be cutting edge for the rest of the world....but not in Japan.

A question for you....do you see miniSD catching on yet? I'm an investor in Sandisk and the key question for them over the next 18 months or so is going to be the popularity of flash memory in handsets. I know that Docomo is including a 16MB card with their handsets, but I am wondering if consumers are upgrading to larger card sizes.
