I don't think the Sharma/Paul difference makes up for the number of people in the US prison system. Of course, the relationship between the loss of blue collar jobs and the resulting destruction of the stable family lifestyle they supported and the prison population is difficult to quantify.

I don't want to deny any company the use of any automation or foreign labor. I just want to adjust the profit that can be made from selling the output in the US to reflect the use of foreign labor instead of domestic. There will be no penalty for sales in foreign markets and foreign companies will pay the same penalty on sales in the US.

I think you are mistaken about reaching a consensus and enacting legislation. This recovery is progressing without the usual increase in employment. More and more people are employed in jobs that don't provide health care and retirement benefits. The spectre of the baby boom retirees has been moved from academic discussion to political discussion by Greenspan. The deficits caused by war and tax cuts for the wealthy will extend indefinetely and put pressure on domestic programs that are ever more necessary to support lower and middle class workers and retirees and their families. The Democrat platform is "one society for the rich and another for the rest of us." The objectives, stem job loss and collect additional tax revenue, are obvious. Bean counters will figure the means and politicans will legislate reasonable, if not optimum, regulations.
